Importance of Web Designing
The growth and popularity of the Internet means that many brick-and-mortar businesses worldwide are increasingly going online. Businessmen of the future will use their websites -- and not their calling cards -- to introduce the public to themselves and their products. In such a scenario, the importance of web designing cannot be under-estimated.
Here are a few tips to assess the design of a website:
- The colours, fonts and graphics used on a site should say something about the products sold on the site. For example, a toy store will use bright colours and comic fonts to attract young children, whereas a site on banking or insurance will use blues and grays, as well as a sober font.
- The Home Page of a site should provide links to and information on the various sections of the site. It can be small enough to fit onto the screen of a monitor or large enough for a user to scroll through. It should be like the cover of a magazine — draw the casual surfer in to explore the content on the site.
- Designers and developers should ensure that the site can be viewed on all the browsers available to a user — be it Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator or Opera. They will also have to ensure that the site can be viewed on all versions of the major browsers in use. Developers should also ensure that both Windows and Macintosh users can easily navigate the site.
- Since most businesses will go online to sell to customers or other businesses, developers and webmasters will have to ensure that such e-commerce sites use the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol and powerful database tools. This would enable online shoppers to locate what they want and pay for it without worrying about hackers stealing credit card information.
- The Internet has been used as a communications medium by scientists and government officials since the 1960s. The web is a later development and has gradually become popular over the last decade. The need for faster and better-looking sites has led to the development of several programming languages, such as Java, JavaBeans and PHP and graphics tools, such as Macromedia Flash and Adobe GoLive. Web designers and developers need to keep up with the latest developments in their fields and use their knowledge judiciously when setting up a site.
We at AVI Designs ( http:// www.av1designs.co.uk/ ) understand the role that a good design plays in attracting surfers to a website. We listen to our clients, analyse their marketing strategy and their competition and then develop the concept for a website. We refine the concept and present several options to our client.
